Josef Bachlechner (*1871 † 1923)
Born in Bruneck (South Tyrol) Josef Bachlechner apprenticed as a sculptor in St. Ulrich in Groeden. He then settled in Hall in Tirol (Austria), employing about a dozen carvers and painters. For several years he also stayed in Rome and Munich in order to improve his skills. Josef Bachlechner is well known for his many designs and sculptures of deeply religious nativities.
Today he is considered the most famous creator of Tyrolean crib figurines in the entire Alps. The ANRI Original Josef Bachlechner nativity is a superb example.
